I would not call myself familiar with the mysticism of San Juan dela Cruz, sadly. Nor would I claim to any great progress in the spiritual exercises of the interior castle. I too, find meditation a short cut to napping. Perhaps we need Zen masters with sticks to keep us awake!
FR FR. For all my voracious appetite for books and writings, I have not, that I remember, read The Dark Night of the Soul. I have read descriptions of 'dryness' and am familiar with the image of the Interior Castle / Chapel Perilous of the Grail Cycle, but that's as close as I have gotten.
